A HAMPSHIRE company will help play a key part in delivering a spectacular finale to the Commonwealth Games.

Weld and MetalCraft, based in Chandler’s Ford, have been selected by Pains Fireworks based in Salisbury to construct bespoke aluminium props for pyrotechnics which will be fired at various angles in the closing ceremony tomorrow.

It is hoped the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, held in Scotland, will provide be a powerful ending to the sporting bonanza that has seen competitors from 71 nations compete for 219 medals across 17 sports.

The ceremony, which is set to be watched by millions of people across the world, has been created and produced by Jack Morton Worldwide, who also delivered Athens 2004 Olympic Games and the Fifa 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The company have created launch boxes that have involved hours of cutting, water jetting, folding and welding.

Guy Deeker, managing director of Pains, said: “We were asked to deliver a safe show in a close proximity environment that we felt reflected the ethos of the Games and Glasgow itself.”
