A bar and restaurant has closed its doors within weeks of its official launch.

Daily Echo:

The Bar in the Square in Winchester threw its launch party on October 18 – four months after opening - but owners have now pulled the plug.

The newly decked-out bar can be seen through the glass windows littered with empty glasses.

Up to 10 people are said to have lost their jobs.

“Everyone did their best, the staff all worked incredibly hard to turn the place around,” said one customer.

“People loved it there and it was full, the atmosphere downstairs was rocking.”

Daily Echo:

The bar is owned by Lee Davies, who said: “It seems uneconomical to continue. Some people have been reemployed elsewhere and jobs have been found for them.

“Something else might go there, you have to watch this space.”

Francis Bradshaw, owner of Alresford-based Moonroast which supplied the bar with coffee, said: “I will have to enquire what’s going on, that’s the first I have heard of it.”

Daily Echo:

Mr Davies also co-owns Vodka Bar and Nightclub which was recently fined over £1,600 in London’s High Court for not having a music licence.
