A HAMPSHIRE bed and breakfast is celebrating after being named one of the funkiest in the country.

When it comes to all things funky, The Pig in the Wall, in Southampton, is officially the second best in the UK, beating off competition from scores of other hopefuls.

The chic establishment was crowned runner-up in the AA Funkiest B&B of the Year Award 2015, beaten only by the San Pietro, in Scunthorpe.

Hotel manager, Rachael Brazier, received the award on behalf of the team back in Southampton, at a prestigious ceremony, held at the Landmark London Hotel.

The AA inspect and rate more than 2,300 B&B’s throughout the country and the annual B&B awards recognises and rewards the excellent services provided by the UK’s very best B&B establishments.

The Pig in the Wall opened in October 2012 as part of the Home Grown Hotel Group, in a Grade 2 listed building in the 13th Century protective walls of Southampton.

With 12 shabby chic bedrooms, The Pig in the Wall offers guests the quality and luxury of a top class hotel but in rather unique surroundings.

As the little sister of the renowned Brockenhurst The Pig hotel, guests at the Pig in the Wall can use the complimentary Land Rover service to visit The Pig for dinner.

Jen Weatherley, group sales, marketing and brand manager of home grown hotels, said: “We are thrilled The Pig in the Wall is a runner up for the Funkiest B&B and delighted to be recognised by the AA for the hard work that has gone into creating somewhere a little different.”
