New research has found that one in four small and medium businesses in the South East fear the new government won’t stick to election promises.

The poll conducted by small business funder Liberis, found that 25 per cent of the South East’s SMEs feel less confident about their business’ future since the election, compared to 18 per cent who now feel more confident.

Some 57 per cent feel the same as before.

The survey showed 29 per cent felt that the pledges such as cutting red tape and helping the self-employed build up a pension will not be kept.

It asked 1000 small and medium enterprises.

Liberis chief executive Paul Mildenstein said: “Despite a majority win nationally, there’s still plenty of work needed to gain the confidence of the South East’s small businesses.

"Last week’s announcement of a new Enterprise Bill is a welcome start.”
