BUSINESS Environment has introduced an electric car charging port at its ViewPoint offices on Basing View.

The company believes it is the first UK serviced office business to provide free charging ports for its clients, having also installed a point at its Reading centre.

BE will monitor the response to this initiative to determine the viability of rolling out more charging ports at its other 10 centres.

Managing director David Saul, said: “We have the reputation of leading the serviced office industry when it comes to client service provision and we regard the introduction of free charging ports as a logical development in these times of increased awareness to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

“Naturally we will see how existing and prospective clients react to this initiative but a number have already applauded this move. We will see whether charging ports could, or should, be extended to other relevant centres.”

BE client Steve Perry of HP Consultants, based at ViewPoint, said: “I jokingly asked the centre manager Lisa Cole, when ViewPoint was going to get an electric hook-up for my new electric car. “I was shocked when two weeks later Lisa told me one was being fitted next week.

“This just shows that not only did BE Offices listen but more importantly they acted.

“I still can’t believe that a two second comment has become reality so quickly. It also shows that green issues are important to us all and more companies should be forward thinking about this.

“I will now be able to drive to and from work without any co2 emissions. I can’t thank Lisa and BE enough for helping me and most importantly the environment.”
