A NEW activity centre could see people in Southampton bouncing off the walls.

The city is set to reach new heights as the UK’s first chain of trampoline parks launches this winter.

Oxygen Freejumping will be coming to a Southampton retail park in December, bringing at least 50 new jobs.

It will offer 20,000 sq ft of jumping joy to families with more than 150 connected trampolines and soft walls allowing children and adults to fly through the air.

The £1.5million venue will be the first trampoline park in the area and will make Southampton home to one of only two Oxygen trampoline parks in the country.

No change of use planning permission was needed for the site which is set to offer a variety of activities all year round including hour-long freejumping sessions with access to dodgeball courts and an obstacle course.

It will also offer family bounce sessions, fitness classes, a professional trampolining academy for aspiring gymnasts and ‘Teen Takeovers’ which include two hours of strobe-lit bouncing with a live DJ and will work as a venue for parties as well.

David Stalker, CEO of Oxygen Freejumping, said: “Oxygen is the first brand of its kind in the UK and each Oxygen Park will ensure the highest standards of quality and service.

“As a result, our staff will receive the very best training and we’re currently recruiting for people to join the team in a range of positions.

"We’re excited to be opening our second park in Southampton and we’re looking forward to seeing local people discover just how much fun they can have jumping.”

Cabinet member for leisure, Satvir Kaur said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea and I’m all for something that is going to encourage families to get out and do something together.

"Of course it’s also brilliant that something that will be so much fun will also bring extra jobs to people in the city.

“I love the idea of getting everybody jumping this winter and I’m definitely up for having a go, I’ll be there in all my glory to try it out.”

The launch of the company’s second site comes after the opening of the first site in Acton, West London in July.

Oxygen Freejumping will be based in the Antelope Road Retail Park and jobs on offer range from receptionists, court monitors, cafe staff and party coordinators.

The park will open in December and opening hours will run from 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 8am – 9pm on Sundays.

Bookings will be available on the website from late November and costs £12.50 for one hour or £10 per person for a family booking.
