THERE was not an iceberg in sight when young business people from Hampshire enjoyed a night on the Titanic in aid of charity.

The Gala Dinner organised by Southampton JCI (Junior Chamber international) raised more than £330 for No Limits which offer support to vulnerable young people in Hampshire.

Almost 60 attended the event at the Grand Harbour Hotel including delegates from UK JCIs in Leeds, Barnsley, Doncaster and London as well branches in France, Romania, Belgium and Malta.

They were joined by the Mayor of Southampton, Councillor  Cathie McEwing.

To tie in with the Titanic theme guests were seated at tables named after places, people and other ships connected with the doomed liner.

As part of the fun there was a mock-up of the Titanic’s prow where guests could pose for photos in the style of Leonardo Di Capario and Kate Winslet in the James Cameron movie.

Guests were entertained by magician Stephen Simmons and harpist Liane Hopkins, who both gave their services free of charge.

No Limts is Southampton  JCI’s chosen charity for 2016 and so far they have raised £1,769 which president Celeste Onomo, who works for Kingfisher at Chandler’s Ford, hopes will be bumped up to £2,000 by the end of the year.

Next year the branch will be hosting the national JCI conference, during the third week of November at the De Vere Grand Harbour.
