THE deadline for entry in the Echo-backed South Coast Business Awards is nearing but there’s still time to enter.

This year there are two new sponsors for two new categories – logistics firm Meachers Global Logistics is supporting the new category Sustainable Business of the Year and accountants Moore Stephens are backing the Owner Managed Business Award.

The Sustainable Business of the Year award is open to all organisations in the public, private and third sector.

Judges will look for evidence of how a sustainable approach has improved commercial performance, competitiveness, customer perception, staff engagement, and continued financial strength.

Focusing on policies or projects that positively impact on society and the environment as well as the economy, judges will also look for examples of where the organisation has not only changed behaviour internally but also the behaviour of customers and suppliers.

Meachers’ commercial director Gary Whittle, pictured left, said: “With the latest news on the clean air zones and businesses needing to do more for both the environment and the economy, this award is just so important to showcase which companies in our region are committed to change.

“Demonstrating that not only have they had an impact on society and the environment but also the economy in a sustainable way, whilst getting full buy in from staff members.

“That’s why, at Meachers, we felt so strongly about this award. To help the economy to grow in a way which is sustainable and to help the environment, there is a lot we could learn from other businesses who are approaching this in the best possible way. “

The Owner Managed Business Award celebrates the contribution of OMBs to the UK economy, and will recognise a small to medium sized business, that has demonstrated solid growth and strong financial performance, that understands its customers, has an engaged workforce with effective leadership and is continually innovating to support future growth.

It is open to organisations with more than £5m turnover in their last financial year and has more than 25 employees.

Moore Stephens managing partner Stuart Datlen, pictured, said: “We are looking forward to being involved in the South Coast Business Awards and launching a new category.

“The business community in Southampton is very strong and we are keen to recognise small to medium businesses that can demonstrate solid growth and a strong financial performance. The awards will act as a fantastic gateway for businesses across the south to showcase their talent.’

The closing date for entries is April 19.

Entrants across all categories will also be considered for the Trethowans Business of the Year Award. The winners will be announced at an awards night at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl on July 6.
