A HAMPSHIRE man has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) for 2017-18.

RSM tax partner Nick Parker, based at the firm’s offices in Southampton and Basingstoke, has served as an elected member of the institute’s council since 1995.

Nick, who lives in West Wellow, chaired the ICAEW board for three years, and also chaired its members’ board, and audit committee.

Nick trained with a small firm in Slough from where he moved to Touche Ross in London, specialising in tax.

In the latter part of his career, he worked for Tenon both in Southampton and Edinburgh, practising as a tax partner for before moving to RSM.

Nick is also involved with the Southern Society of Chartered Accountants (SOSCA) and regularly appears on local media commenting on tax and personal finance issues.

He said: “I am honoured to have been elected ICAEW president for the coming year, and am committed to upholding the institute’s strong values.

“However, I want to continue to improve diversity within our profession and ensure that the new government is equipped to handle the growing deficit and complexity of Brexit, and provides help for UK small businesses to grow and succeed.”
