The annual summer exhibition of Chandler's Ford Art Group was formally opened by Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Mrs Pamela Holden-Brown at Kings Court Masonic Centre.

A display of more than 200 original pictures impressed the mayor and invited guests.

The exhibition which ran for seven days included watercolours, oils, acrylic and mixed media work, never exhibited previously at the Chandler's Ford show.

Most was for sale and prices varied from a few to hundreds of pounds.

Group president Derek Snowdon welcomed the Mayor and her escort Mr Holden-Brown in the absence of Joan Willingham the current Chairman of the group, due to a close family bereavement.

Prize winners were Joan Willingham for the best oil, Ali Lindley for the best watercolour, Mike Horton for best other media and Chris Marlow for best mixed media.

Four other members received Highly Commended awards. The judging was undertaken by professional artist Tony Hunt.

There will also be a People's Choice award, the Dennis Olds Trophy, following a vote by all visitors to the show over its duration.
