A BURGLAR stole hundreds of pounds from the homes of his own family and friends.

Thief Callum MacMillan, pictured, even targeted the home of his mother during his crime spree.

Now a judge has sent him to jail and told him to hang his head in shame.

MacMillan stole more than £1,700 in cash and property in the raids, Southampton Crown Court heard.

The court was told that one burglary happened after the 21-year-old rowed with his mother and then returned later the same evening while she and his stepfather were out.

He broke a patio door with a brick and from a bedroom stole about £100 in cash in different nominations kept in a box.

Prosecutor Richard Withey said about two months later MacMillan went to the home of his stepmother, also in Chandler’s Ford, where he gained entry through the garage and an internal door to steal items including a laptop computer as well as games.

Following his arrest, he confessed to police that he had also broken into the home of a friend in Marchwood.

Said to have ten previous convictions, MacMillan, of Missendene Place, Eastleigh, admitted three burglaries and was jailed for 40 months.

Defence barrister Charles Hine attributed his offending to his alcoholism and said he had not ransacked the properties.

Judge John Boggis QC told him: “It is said you drink too much but how you could target the homes of your family beggars belief.

“You should hold your head in shame. This was plainly premeditated, deliberate targeting.”
