A FAMILY-run coach business has been stripped of its operators’ licence for a week following a disciplinary hearing.
Barfoot and Sons of Hedge End was hauled before a Traffic Commission-er over serious maintenance issues.
The firm, which runs schools trips and other excursions, received three probation notices from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) when roadside checks found an emergency exit locked from the outside, a defective exhaust and loose seat.
A further inspection revealed the firm’s MoT pass rate was below the industry average. Only five of 11 coaches passed first time.
At a public hearing in Bristol western area traffic commissioner Sarah Bell suspended the firm’s licence for seven days.
Barfoots agreed to bring in a more frequent inspection regime and a new maintenance contract.
The firm, which boasts “our reputation is your guarantee” on its website, was unavailable for comment on the matter.
