TWO police officers have been injured after their vehicle was hit by an out-of-control sports car on the M3 near Eastleigh.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened when the officers were parked on the hard shoulder.

It is believed they were speaking to a third person inside the police car when the MG sports car collided with the vehicle, on the northbound stretch of the motorway near junction 13 for Chandler’s Ford.

Emergency services were sent to the scene to free the crash victims including Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s special equipment unit from Southampton.

Insp Julie Fry said: “An MG sports car swerved to avoid another vehicle which is believed to be a blue or green Corsa, causing the MG to spin and hit the police car.”

Insp Fry said that three people suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Anyone who may have seen the crash can contact Totton Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 4545.
