A WINCHESTER school raised £400 for athletes with learning disabilities after a visit from a football legend.

Former Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy visited St Swithun’s School to give a talk to pupils, parents and staff about Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB).

SOGB is the country’s largest provider of all-year sports training and competitions for children and adults with learning disabilities.

Mr McMenemy, president of SOGB, was joined by three athletes from SOGB, Lizzie Williams, a rhythmic gymnast, Michael Kennet, a sailor who has competed in the World Games in Shanghai and Gary Price who also competed in Shanghai at athletics.

Chris Jones, regional chair of the Special Olympics southern region, said: “We are delighted with the donation of almost £400 made towards the work of the South East Hampshire group.”
