MORE than 130 residents have inspected a water provider’s plans for an 11-mile underground pipeline in Hampshire.

Southern Water held a series of public exhibitions at locations in Romsey, Ampfield, Otterbourne and Totton on their £50m scheme designed to secure the county’s future water supplies.

Due to incoming regulations further restricting how much water can be taken from the River Itchen at certain times of year, Southern Water wants to abstract more from the River Test and transport it using the pipeline.

Exhibitions were held in areas close to where the pipeline will run, linking Testwood Water Supply Works to a sister site in Otterbourne.

The pipeline would cross two rivers, the M27 motorway, the Redbridge to Romsey railway line and the M3 motorway.

Visitors got the opportunity to view the plans, ask questions of the project team and give feedback on the proposals.

Damon Elliott, Southern Water’s Project Manager, said: “The discussions we have had and the feedback received will be important as we finalise our plans ahead of the submission of a planning application.”
