A ROMSEY-based cancer support centre is appealing for more volunteers.

Jane Scarth House, which comes under the umbrella of Wessex Cancer Trust, is looking for more volunteers.

Volunteers are also needed at Wessex Cancer Trust’s new Centre which is due to open in Winchester shortly.

Jane Scarth House offers emotional support, free counselling, aromatherapy, reflexology and reiki.

“We provide support for the families and carers of those with cancer and are here if people need us,” said manager Anne Campbell.

“We’ve got a fantastic team here and they are the backbone of Jane Scarth House but we always need more, both here and at the new centre in Winchester.

“Our befrienders are very special people and we wouldn’t be able to manage without them. People who are good listeners would be ideal candidates for the post and volunteers don’t need to have been affected by cancer themselves in order to help out at the centre.”

If anyone would like to volunteer as a befriender they can call JSH on 01794 830374 or e-mail janescarthhouse@ btcon nect.com. Full training and support is given.

Anne added “Jane Scarth House also has a very hard working fundraising committee that helps keep the facility going, who are also looking for more volunteers, so do pop in and have a chat with me or one of our Befrienders if you are interested in fundraising for us.”

*A Christmas Gift Fair in aid of Jane Scarth House will be held at Woodley Village Hall, School Road, Romsey, on Friday, November 23, from 10am to 12.30pm. There will be a selection of handmade gift ideas for Christmas from local craft people. For more details call 01794 511335 or 01794 830374.
