OBSOLETE security cameras in Romsey town centre have been replaced with eight new digital models.

The new CCTV cameras can transmit images to desktop computers which can be accessed by the police and other authorised users such as community safety officers. The new cameras are controlled from computer and have full-pan, tilt and zoom functions and a picture quality similar to television. Recorded images can also be replayed. All images from the cameras are securely stored at the council’s Andover offices.

Daniel Busk, corporate portfolio holder said the old CCTV system was “past its sell-by date”. “New technology provides considerable enhancements in picture quality, camera functionality and live- image streaming. “It is important that we take advantage of these improvements for the benefit of residents and visitors to Romsey,” he said.
