Nursling and Rownhams May Fair (May 5) will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Attractions will include eight military vehicles from the Second World War, a Naafi canteen and Marchwood Military Wives’ Choir, and a war-themed baking competition.
Regular activities at the annual event will include Maypole dancing, a five-category family dog show, a skateboarding competition, children’s archery, a classic and vintage car show, children’s archery range and tap dancing by the Jane McKinnon School of Dancing.
Test Valley Mayor, Janet Whiteley, will officially open the fair at 1pm.
Organiser, Terry Hamer, explained that the May Fair dated back to 1958, when the village hall opened and usually attracted around 2,000 visitors.
Mr Hamer added that he’d like to hear from any Army, Navy, or Air fForce cadets who would like to take part in the event. Other attractions at the event will include Romsey Old Cadets Carnival Showband, wellie throwing, a bouncy castle, a photographic competition and numerous stalls and games.
