Teddy Bears will be baptised and married at Romsey Abbey on Saturday morning.

The mock ceremonies are part of an open day aimed at children and young families.

Vicar Tim Sledge will be teaching children more about the weddings and christenings with the aid of the teddies.

Some of the bears will also be sent down a zip wire which is being rigged up in the Norman church as part of the event, which runs from 10am to 1pm.

Visitors will also be able to see display of wedding dresses and photos of brides, hear the singing of the Boys Choir and take a conducted tour of the belltower.

Rev Sledge commented: "Romsey Abbey is for everyone. It belongs to the whole community, but lots of people still haven’t been in the Abbey or discovered some of its amazing secrets and activities for everyone. We hope lots of families will come along to see what is on offer There’s lots to do and see.”

Admission is free.
