THEY put their best foot forward for good causes.

More than 700 people walked the Test Way bringing thousands of pounds for various charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Oracle Cancer Trust and the Hampshire Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service.

Most of the walkers reached the finish line before the rain arrived around 4pm. But those caught out by the downpours towards the end fundraiser got a drenching as they arrived at Romsey War Memorial Park.

Sunday’s marathon walk along a 25.5 stretch of the Test Way between St Mary Bourne near Andover and Romsey attracted the biggest-ever number of entries in the annual fundraiser organised by the Rotary Club of Romsey Test.

Club spokesman Neill Beasley said: “Some walkers get very wet towards the end and the first guy to finish, Leo Poulter literally ran it. He did it in four hours and 40 minutes. He was amazing. He said he hit a wall at six miles and then got into his stride.”
