A ROMSEY teenager is bidding to become a pop idol.

Singer-song writer Joe Mongan is auditioning for the next series of Britain’s Got Talent after his mum entered him secretly.

He’s heading for Portsmouth Guildhall this Sunday for his audition for the ITV show which is hosted by Ant and Dec and the judging panel includes Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.

“I will be singing an original song called You and it’s the biggest show I’ve entered,” said 18-year-old Joe who won the recent Forest’s Got Talent competition. Unemployed Joe has set his sights on becoming an established artist and he has entered another competition called Brand New Artist organised by Negart Records.

If Joe gets the public to vote for him and reaches the final 20, he will be in with a chance of winning a recording contract with Negart. “I am currently unemployed trying to earn money through gigging and sales of my EP Yellow Brick Road.

The singer/guitarist plays gigs around Southampton and Winchester and can be seen at the Railway Inn in Winchester on October 25.

Joe has lived in Romsey all his life and is a former Mountbatten School pupil.

“I am into most music but my favourites and biggest inspirations are the Beatles, Pete Doherty, Jake Bugg and more recently Johnny Cash. My long term aims are to have my own music heard around the world and try and make a decent living from it,” concluded Joe.

To vote for Joe in the Brand New Artist competition call 09059 639889 followed by ext 21 or text brand 21 to 643433.
