A RESCUE drama was under way last night as emergency services were called to reports of a person in the River Test.

A police helicopter took to the air as 999 personnel after reports of someone in the water at Romsey.

Police were unable to confirm details last night but firefighters were at the scene with paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.

Witnesses took to social networking sites.

On Facebook, Stu Bee wrote: “Looks like they’re looking for somone in the river as they’re searching under the bridge.”

Trevor Curtiss of Rivermead Close, Romsey told the Advertiser he'd seen "a helicopter with powerful search lights scanning Broadlands area of Test from 10.30pm till gone midnight."

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed this and said: “We believe there might be a person in the river.”
