A POPULAR Test Valley tourist attraction’s cafe has a new look.

Bosses at the National Trust’s Mottisfont Abbey have given Kitchen Cafe a complete makeover.

Catering manager Richard Thompson said the changes have made it much more efficient for staff and customers alike.

“It’s far more efficient and will improve customer flow in the cafe and we have a better seating area. People can now sit in the most historic part of the building and enjoy their food in what was the old Victorian kitchen. They can sit and enjoy it as it would have been in the 1930s when Maud Russell was here with the dining tables, a range and an Aga,” said Richard, adding: “We’ve even got the butler’s sink.”

A cake competition was launched to mark the transformation of the cafe and seven year-old Lara Morgan from Wokingham in Berkshire came up with an appropriate design for Mottisfont.

Her cake featued the River Test and leaping trout.

Cake maker Jill Chant from Lockerley turned the design into reality and Lara was there to see it at Tuesday’s official opening ceremony.

The Kitchen Cafe reopens to the public tomorrow (Saturday).
