Test Valley Borough Council is set to begin work to improve the appearance of Romsey canal next Monday (November 3).

Vegetation will be cut back on both sides of the water from the Plaza Theatre to Fishlake Meadows.

Tree thinning will then be carried out to increase the amount of light reaching the path. The work is part of an ongoing project to improve the appearance of the canal for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Community and Leisure Portfolio Holder, Tony Ward, said: “The work needs to be carried out to allow the area to continue flourishing. The project will attract aquatic vegetation and other wildlife to the canal, making it a great place to visit and enhancing the overall appearance of the site.”

Interpretation boards relating to the canal and its wildlife will be installed when the initial work is complete.

The project is part of a series of work undertaken by the Romsey Waterways Partnership with Test Valley Borough Council, alongside the Environment Agency, Natural England, Hampshire County Council, Romsey and District Society, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and the Rotary Club of Romsey Test.
