ROMSEY Carnival bosses are urging townsfolk to take part in next month’s winter parade.

Winter carnival events kick off with a Quiz Night at Romsey Comrades Club at 8pm on November 19 and the Winter Carnival procession which will herald the arrival of the festive season in the town is on Saturday November 22. The parade starts from the Crosfield Hall at 6.15pm and the route will include Broadwater Road, Bell Street and The Hundred.

Pete Lomer from the carnival committee said he hopes people will support the up and coming events. All donations made during the carnival activities are shared between local charities.

Mr Lomer said the parade will be judged before it leaves the Crosfield Hall and the champion of all classes will receive the Len Fry Challenge Cup.

Entry forms are available from the Romsey Advertiser front office and on the carnival’s website.

During the carnival parade Romsey Christmas lights will be turned on. These are being funded by the town council.

Mr Lomer added that streets in the town centre will be affected by temporary road closures during the carnival procession and the Christmas lights switch on and the Crosfield Hall car park will be closed from 4pm that afternoon (Saturday November 22). He also asked people to make a note in their diaries that the carnival’s annual general meeting and presentation evening is on January 7 at 7.30pm in the White Horse Hotel. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

If you really want to plan ahead next year’s summer carnival procession is on Sunday, July 19 and the winter parade November 21.
