A trampoline club is making the leap from Totton to Romsey.

Starlight Trampoline and Gymnastics Club, currently operating at Hounsdown School, will be moving to a unit at Romsey Industrial Estate this week.

The club, which was started nine years ago by Cheryl Blackburn, is moving so it can extend its hours after building up a long waiting list of youngsters hoping to join.

Cheryl said the improvements in team GB’s peformances at Olympic and World level had seen an upsurge in interest in gymnastics and this had fed through to trampolining.

The club currently has two members Jordan Gregson, 16, and Emma Jones, 14, who compete at national level in trampoline.

Cheryl, 43, who is a bank manager turned maths teacher, runs the club on a voluntary basis but would like it to become her full-time job.

“It’s one of the best forms of fitness training as it uses so many muscles,” said Cheryl. “NASA uses trampolines to train astronauts.”

At its new home the club will be able to cater for children’s parties and ladies fitness sessions.

From January 5 the club will open from 4am to 9pm, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm Saturdays and 10am to 1pm on Sundays.

The club will be running taster sessions over the Christmas holiday period. For more details check starlightgym.co.uk
