A ROMSEY dad’s alcohol-free fundraiser is going down well with supporters of his campaign to raise awareness of his son’s heart condition.

David White and his wife Tracy are raising the public profile of cardiomyopathy – a heart muscle disease suffered by their 21-year-old son Nicholas.

Since diagnosis last year Nicholas hasn’t let the condition stop him playing competitive sports such as football.

David, 51 and a family friend 25-year-old Sami Weight agreed not to touch alcohol throughout February and so far they have kept to their word.

The White family have set their sights on raising £1,000 for the Wessex Heartbeat Appeal at Southampton General Hospital.

The Star Inn, Dukes Head, Sun Inn and the Bishops Blaize along with Romsey Comrades Club are supporting their campaign and next Wednesday (February 11) at 8pm there is a Beetle Drive at Romsey Football Club.

Winners of the drive will receive vouchers for pub meals in Romsey.

Tracy said: “David and Sami have already raised in excess of £600 and this doesn’t include money in various tins and pledged on sponsorship forms. Everyone is keeping an eye on them and they are counting down the days.” Anyone who is willing to donate raffle prizes for the Beetle Drive is asked to contact Tracy on 01794 516691.
