DO you fancy becoming Queen of Romsey for a year?

If the answer is yes, then now is your chance because Romsey Carnival bosses are looking for new ‘royal blood’ to lead this summer and winter parades and represent the town at various events throughout the year. On April 15 there is a selection night at Romsey Comrades Club when the 2015 Carnival Queen will be chosen along with a Senior Queen and two attendants.

Carnival spokesman Pete Lomer said the committee decided to make “a few changes and reintroduce” the Senior Carnival Queen position this year after an absence of 23 years and contestants should be 60 and over for this category of the competition.

He said would-be attendants must be within the age groups 7 to 11 and 12 to 15 and Carnival Queen candidates aged 16 to 25.

All contestants must live in the SO51 postcode area and be available for the summer carnival week July 12 to 19 and the winter carnival events between November 18 and 21.

Both chosen carnival queens will receive £100 each and the attendants £50. They will all be supplied with dresses to wear while representing the town at carnival functions. Entry forms will be available on the night, Kutz in Latimer Street or from the website.

Would-be contestants are asked to be at the Comrades Club by 7pm on selection night.
