ASPIRING film makers will be rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in the British movie industry when a film exposition arrives today.

For the first time ever, scores of film makers will be coming to Southampton and imparting their words of wisdom on those who want to know more about how to get their move made.

More than 40 Hollywood speakers have been booked to appear at Ageas Bowl for Film Expo South which promises to bring together the South’s creative film industry talents.

People can expect to see directors, producers, film makers, writers, make-up artists, actors and financiers and many more for the first time.

Founder and CEO of Film Expo South, entrepreneur and actress Gillian Tully said this is an opportunity to create a unique platform to showcase the South’s film making talents and allow people to unite to make movies.

One of those speaking will be John Glen, who has directed five James Bond movies and editor on three others in the hit franchise.

Others include Bryan Stanislas who has worked in the special effects departments on several hit films including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and War Horse.

Gillian added that “one of Britain’s top acting and voice coaches” Mel Churcher will also be speaking at the event, while moviemakers could meet funding bodies to help them get their script turned into a film.

She said: “The film industry is very London centric, and we sometimes forget about the fantastic talent we have right here on our doorstep. This event will help boost the confidence of our creative resources and raises awareness of all the great capabilities that are available locally. I hope the delegates will leave here inspired and enthused; having forged new alliances and developed their knowledge about the products and services that are available to them here,” she said.

Throughout the day there will be screenings and seminars hosted by nearly 40 acclaimed industry experts, who will cover topics from funding, production, sales and distribution to music rights, media law, social media and marketing.

People can also put forward their ideas to a panel of judges and help get their ideas made.

“We have some fantastic prizes on offer, including production assistance from Itasca Films and a Film Production Insurance Package from Integro Entertainment,” added Gillian. There is a range of master classes to hone your practical skills in script writing, editing and acting.

Registration opens at 9am, and while the exhibition closes at 6pm, there will be entertainment until 11pm.
