“IT’S gonna be lovely jubbly.”

Those are the words of the dad whose son's story has touched hearts in Romsey.

Jaggers Curtis’s dad James is going to be peddling hard at the end of this month when he cycles from Peckham to Paris dressed as the London borough’s most famous resident.

James, a fan of Only Fools and Horses, will be joined by four of his friends when they cycle from the home of Del Boy and Rodney to the Eiffel Tower in three days.

Their journey will raise much-needed funds for Jagger, who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and is unlikely to live beyond his 20s.

The Romsey Abbey Primary School pupil, aged eight, is not expected to be able to walk when he is in his teens and so James wants to help him.

James, who lives in The Harrage, said the cash would go towards a £4,000 electric off-road wheelchair.

Dressed up like superheroes Batman and Robin – in a classic scene from the popular BBC sitcom – they will be riding on £25 chopper bikes.

“I’m wanted to do something for Jagger and so I thought of cycling to Paris but I love Only Fools and Horses so instead of London to Paris I thought why not Peckham to Paris? It's going to be cushty.” James said.

He will be joined by his friends Spencer Wakelin from Romsey, Adam Travers, Paul Sedwell and James Poole, who hope to raise £10,000 in the trip.

It allow Saints fan Jagger to keep on doing the things he loves doing such as taking walks across the New Forest with his family.

“The wheelchair will keep his mobility going. It’s so has can go off road with his friends. Ordinary wheelchairs are only good for soft tarmac. This will mean he can go for walks with us as things get worse," he said.

It will also go towards the cost of a £7,500 hydrotherapy pool which will help Jagger's muscles by relieving the tension and tightness that builds up due to his condition.

“It will keep him doing normal things so that he doesn’t have to be stopped from doing anything. The pool is the key thing that will help him with his exercise,” James added.

In April medical bosses gave the go-ahead for Jagger and other boys like him to start an expensive treatment which could potentially slow down the effects of his condition following a campaign by medical charity Muscular Dystrophy UK and Romsey MP Caroline Nokes.

James and his mates will be setting off early on Thursday June 23 and arriving in Paris on Saturday June 25.

With three weeks to go James and his friends have raised more than £2,500 already.
