A HAMPSHIRE MP was not afraid to get her hands dirty when she rolled up her sleeves to help spruce up a popular waterside spot in her constituency.
Romsey and Southampton North MP Caroline Nokes sported gloves and a hi-vis jacket when she joined residents launching a community litter picking day in Romsey.
The event was organised by the Romsey and District Society and is an annual get-together for people to spruce up a stream which leads into the River Test.
The team used litter pickers to fish out rubbish from the waterway and trees and bushes.
Some donned wellies and waders so that they could venture into the stream to access harder to reach places.
The crew rounded off the activity by having coffee in La Parisienne.
Ms Nokes said: “The society do a fantastic job year-round for the town and surrounding area.
"The Autumn Stream Clean is just one of these important events and is an opportunity to see immediate change thanks to local volunteers.
“As a tributary to the world-renowned River Test, it is hugely important that the stream through Romsey is kept clean and flowing well and is something I am always delighted to participate in along with the many regular volunteers who give up their own time to help.”
