SHE wanted to do something different to raise vital funds for two charities close to her heart.

Romsey Post Office worker Collette Ibbett’s has had her hair shaved off in front of thousands of football fans.

The 46-year-old’s purple locks were lopped off under the floodlights at Eastleigh Town FC on Tuesday raising £345 for Brain Tumour Charity and the Purple Heart Wishes – which organises days out and special events for adults aged 18-40 suffering from terminal illnesses.

Collette, who is actually a Saints fan, wanted to do something different to raise funds in memory of Lyndsey Roughton – the niece of her close friend Liz Maw.

Lyndsey lost her life to a brain tumour in February 2014, aged just 29.

She said that fans of both the Spitfires and Torquay United cheered and clapped as she had her head shaved at half time in the Conference Premier 3-0 home win.

Collette had even dyed her hair purple in recognition of the charity before her head was shaved by Nick Martin who works in Trevor Mitchell Salon in Romsey.

Collette, who lives in Highfield, secured the opportunity with the help of Saints legend Lawrie McMenemy who is a customer at the Church Street Post Office where she works.

She said: “I know that my hair will grow back but there are young women who suffer from illnesses who have no choice in losing their hair.

"Now it is off, It feels really nice. I am so glad I had it done, and for a worthy cause.

"Not using the hairdryer as much in the morning is definitely a bonus – especially for my partner.”
