Harry Potter, Gregg Heffley, The Tiger Who Came To Tea - they’re just some of the characters you might see walking around schools today for World Book Day 2017.
Now in its 20th year, the event has grown in popularity with children and adults all over the world dressing up as their favourite characters to show their love of their favourite books.
Designing comic books, running quizzes, taking ‘shelfies’, and of course enjoying the simple pleasure of reading together and alone are just some of the plans for today - all with the aim of celebrating our love of books.
Dinner ladies at one school have even devised a Harry Potter-themed lunch and will be serving Hogwarts Chicken with snitch roast potatoes. Head cook at St Mark’s in Freemantle Laura Suanez-Aisa is donning her finest Hogwarts costume to demonstrate her love for the reading while staff at Scrivens opticians in Shirley will be riding the magic elevator as homage to Roald Dahl - and selling second hand books to raise money for Alzheimer’s UK.
