IT IS a rivalry unlike any seen before.

Two of Hampshire’s biggest teams are set to go head-to-head once again when they test their sporting knowledge at a special quiz.

The Mountbatten School, in Romsey, will be hosting its annual Sports Quiz on November 23, featuring players from Hampshire County Cricket Club and Southampton Football Club.

Over the last 32 years, the quiz has played host to some top names including Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Robin Smith, Michael Lumb and, more recently, Shane Long, Charlie Austin, Matt Targett, Reece Topley, Chris Wood and Sean Ervine.

Last year’s quiz saw two special guest stars making a return visit: Matt Le Tissier, who spent his entire professional club career with Southampton, and Francis Benali, a loyal club legend, recently in the media spotlight for his 1,000-mile charity run between every Premier League ground and Benali’s Big Run.

Hosted by assistant deputy headteacher Mark Chance, with Scott Osbourne, head of PE as the Quiz Master, the teams will be led through various rounds including the ever popular Captains’ Challenge.

The previous quiz saw Hampshire Cricket Club defeated by just two points in the final round.

All cash raised during the event will be donated to the Pebbles Charity in South Africa.

This is a charity that enriches the lives of disadvantaged children and families in the Winelands farming communities, and was supported by our students on our recent Rugby tour to South Africa.

Tickets with table seating are available at £6 each for adults and £5 each for children. Alternatively, a whole table of ten may be purchased for £55.

Seating in rows are available at a ticket price of £4 per adult and £3 per child.

The quiz starts at 7.15pm.
