HUNDREDS of people came together today to celebrate the life of a much-loved Hampshire grandad.

Romsey was filled with more than 200 friends and family of Joe Wells, with many arriving in front of Romsey Abbey in banger racing cars.

And locals were also treated to a never-before-seen sight in the market town - several of the cars doing burnouts in remembrance of 'Grandad Joe', who passed away on October 17, aged 75.

One mourner said: "He was a great bloke and will be truly missed by us all."

Following the funeral, the procession travelled to Woodley Cemetery for the internment.

A tribute from his family added: “A much loved dad and grandad who will be sadly missed by all his family.”
