GRITTERS will head out on Hampshire's roads tonight as temperatures are forecast to plunge.

Hampshire County Council says that road surfaces will drop below freezing overnight and that it is preparing to grit priority routes from 7pm this evening.

The Met Office says it will drop to 3C in Southampton by midnight, with the 'feels like' temperature at freezing.

In Winchester it will drop to 1C by about midnight and the feels like temperature is as low as -2C.

A Met Office forecast for Saturday says: "Mostly dry, with any rain in the far south soon dying out, although an isolated wintry shower can't be ruled out in the west.

"Frosty in many places by morning.

"Minimum temperature -1 °C."
