IT HAS been a successful first year for the team at Romsey's newest pub.

The Tipsy Pig, on Latimer Street, took the town by storm when it opened last year.

Father and son team Phil and Lucas Greenwood put in the legwork to transform the pub from what was the William IV – now scarcely recognisable – to open on December 23.

The craft alehouse, which prides itself on serving lesser known but delicious ales and lagers, has become a jewel of the town, with hundreds of local punters flocking to it every week.

And while some pubs are known for a particular pint it sells, The Pig brings in new tastes every few weeks, keeping the flavours fresh.

Scores of events are also help at the alehouse, providing a home for a number of Romsey groups.

These include Elef Art at The Pig, which gives locals a chance to learn how to be arty, as well as giving them the opportunity to unleash their artistic side.

Live bands and gigs are also a regular event at the pub, with different events, sometimes, every night.

Coming up at the pub are performances from musicians Vo Fletcher (November 2), The Mantic Muddlers (November 3) and a night of laughter with local comedians (November 4).

It also played a starring role during the summer's Beggars Fair, with scores of local bands, a gin bar and a hog roast to boot.

Lucas said: "It has been a great year, the locals of Romsey have been fantastic.

"Seeing how people have come forward and supported the smaller independent businesses has been great. They want to try something different, and that is what we have offered."

He added: "Having the whole music scene at the pub has been great; I like to think we have had a good impact it in Romsey.

"The Beggar's Fair was also a great day for us."

Looking towards the future, Lucas added The Pig is looking to have an on-site brewery, hopefully in the next few years.
