Motorists from Nursling and Rownhams and further afield will welcome the Highways Agency’s forecast that they plan to finish the M27 widening before Christmas.

The stretch of motorway between junction 3 at Nursling to the point where the M27 and the approach road to the M3 divide has been enlarged from three lanes to four to alleviate traffic congestion and make it easier for traffic to filter across.

Landscaping and the necessary signs should be in place by next Spring but should not affect traffic flow.

The Agency will carry out their final public consultation at the Horns Drove community centre on November 20 at 7.30pm.

On a more mundane traffic matter the parish council will repaint parking markings at the village hall and Nursling Club car park on December 20 and for the first time disabled parking bays will be provided.

The council are also to make a £750 grant to Nursling and Rownhams Twinning Association to help them to celebrate the 20th anniversary, next spring, of the village’s twinning with Percy in Normandy.

The council are worried about damage which could be caused to the Home Covert woodland, adjacent to Redbridge Lane, where Test Valley have long-term plans for housing. The council agreed to spend £500 on an environmental impact study.
