THEY will drive for four days covering more than 1500 miles in a car they bought for just £170.

A team of IT workers from the Romsey school are taking part in the Sucata rally taking in France, Spain and Portugal in their VW scirocco.

Jon Pinckney, 36, and Lee Kemp, 26, who both work at the school will be joined by former employee Matt Smith, 21, are raising cash for Gemin-i.org.

The trio have already nearly reached their fundraising target of £2000, which will help provide technology for deprived children, both in the third world and at home in the UK.

The team name 'Back to the Computer' is a play on their 'Delorian' themed scirocco and the fact they have to leave Lisbon on Monday, headed straight for work on their return to the country on Wednesday.

All the schools computer systems need to be ready for the start of the new term.

Leaving this Thursday (27/08) the men will have a number of overnight stops including La Rochelle in France, San Sebatian and Salamanca in Spain before reaching Lisbon.

Jon, who works as the IT manager at the school, said: "We've been getting to know a few of the other teams and a few have fixed towing bars on their cars so we can always be towed back if we break down.

"I think sucata is the Portuguese for scrap so if needs be we can scrap it over there and fly home."

Being experts in technology the guys also have some pretty cool gadgets to take along the route with them.

Jon added: "The car is rigged up with a GPS tracker which will automatically update our progress on the website and we have a camera on the front of the car which if you track us on google earth will update with pictures."
