Travelling showpeople’s site application dropped
10:10am Tuesday 8th May 2012 in News
A PLANNING application to turn land into a permanent site for travelling showpeople has been withdrawn.
An application had gone in for a change of use for the land adjacent to Forest Edge Park, in Gardeners Lane, East Wellow, The application, made by Mr R Larby, Mr B Russett and Mr C Russett and done on their behalf by agents, Cunnane Town Planning LLP, was registered with Test Valley Borough Council on February 6 and was formally withdrawn on April 17.
It had stated that three families, who operate fairs regularly in the Hampshire area, wanted to move from the overcrowded Forest Edge Park site, where they are sharing plots with other families, to the new nearby plots.
It argued that there is a shortfall of showpeople’s plots in the Test Valley and said all the adults are members of the Showmen’s Guild and that the site would be only occupied by travelling showpeople.
Wellow Parish Council had said they would support the application as long as it remained three plots and the woodland was managed as a forest area.
Cunnane Town Planning LLP did not want to comment on the reasons for the withdrawal.
