Guard your batteries, warn police

POLICE have issued a warning to rural communities to beware after a rise in battery thefts across the county.

The latest incident was at a farm off Comptons Drive, Plaitford, where a lorry battery was stolen from a shed between August 25 and Monday September 3.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious over that period, has information or sees any suspicious vehicles in Romsey rural areas in future is asked to call Romsey Police on 101.

Insp Jackie Willson, of Romsey Police, said there had been an increase in such thefts across the county and that it is believed batteries are targeted for the metal in them which can be sold for scrap.

She warned those with isolated batteries, which many farms use to power electric fences, to be vigilant.
