A WINCHESTER restaurant has vowed to win the ‘Curry Oscars’ after falling short this year.

Balaka Indian restaurant in Weeke was up against two other Hampshire eateries at the British Curry Awards in November but were unsuccessful.

Shafi Hussein, owner, said: “We were disappointed not to win, but had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable evening. We are already working on the judges’ feedback in preparation for next year’s event and will persevere until we are successful."

He added: "There are over 10,000 Indian restaurants in the UK, employing 80,000 people and turning over £3.5 billion annually, and so to be recognised amongst the best is a fantastic achievement both our staff and customers can be proud of."

The glitzy ceremony was attended by celebrities including royal correspondent Jenny Bond and PR guru Max Clifford.

Amazed they were even nominated.

Used this place in the past until hearing from locals of many people being ill after visiting.

Later transpired theyve been in trouble for the employment of illegal immigrants and also in trouble for dirty kitchens.

Who picks these restaurants!!
What a joke - 4 cautions from the council and a £20,000 fine for poor hygiene - obviously must be another mickey mouse competition

Recently ordered a take away....told 50 minute delivery. Quite happy with that, over one and a half hours later, it arrived.
It arrived cold, on complaining was told that it was NOT cold, (how would he know)!!!! Try to fob me off with a bottle of house wine........finally got 25% of my bill.

Will be taking me custom else where from now on, and certainly would not recommmend this restaurant.

I can remember when they had a Sunday buffet and they tried to stuff you full of cheap nibbles from the starter to make sure you weren't hungry for the main course. Haven't been there since.
