Rebuff for council office conversion plans in Winchester city centre
7:00am Monday 4th March 2013 in Winchester
By Andrew Napier
PLANS to convert former part-Georgian civic offices into flats in Winchester city centre have been rejected by city council planners.
Ameriscot Commercial applied to change the use of Trafalgar House on Trafalgar Street, next to the Law Courts, and convert it into 15 flats for people aged 55 and over.
The mid-18th century Georgian part is grade II listed and the modern extension was built in the 1970s.
Ameriscot also wants to build a ground floor extension and demolish the disused court gatehouse.
Until recently Trafalgar House was home to the social services department of the county council. The council sold it in 2010.
