A Winchester primary school has declared war - on waste.
To mark national Waste Week, St Bede school held a series of events focused on recycling and energy efficiency.
Children produced sculptures from waste items, heard from guest speakers and looked at reducing their energy footprint at school and at home.
They were visited by the Quantum theatre company with their show What if it rains? and Derek Taylor, of the Hairy Pot Plant Company, who spoke about his environmentally-friendly pots.
Year Six pupil, Edward Agombar, said: “Waste week is very important because it prevents everything going into landfill and teaches us to think of waste as a useful resource. The world is running out of resources so we need to be more careful about what and how we use things.”
As part of their bid to win an Eco-Schools Green Flag award, St Bede families also collected more than a tonne of unwanted clothing under a scheme organised by Wastebuster, the environmental awareness campaign. In return they will receive sports equipment.
