Civic chiefs look for home for model of 1870 Winchester

CIVIC chiefs have pledged to continue to look for a permanent home for a model of Victorian Winchester.
The model, built by retired planner Roger Brown, was recently on display at the Great Hall.
It was originally set to close on Saturday, February 16, but was extended until March 15 due to popular demand.
Cllr Therese Evans asked council leader Keith Wood what was being done to ensure the model continued to be available to the public. Mr brown has talked of publicly burning it unless a permanent home can be found.
She said: “The exhibition has reminded people what a valuable piece of work it is. I ask the leader to have an active dialogue with the county council and Winchester University to find a home for it.”
Cllr Wood said the model was very popular but difficult to house because of its size.
He said: “It’s an excellent model and a large model. The issues of maintenance and insurance will take a while to sort out. But I have asked our estates department to see if they can accommodate it. We will try and help if we can but it’s a question of finding a site that is big enough.”
