WINCHESTER’S wine enthusiasts have reported a very successful August.

The recent meeting of the Winchester Winemakers' Circle saw them turn their hand to `judging, with a good selection of bottles provided by members.

The wines were rotated around tables with each bottle marked out of 30, paying attention to the clarity and bouquet of the wine as well as its taste, before members gave feedback on each.

Jan Murray, of the Winchester Winemakers' Circle, said: “Inevitably opinions differed and some wines were better received than others. The most popular wine overall was one presented by Mr Peter Stiles. There was a general consensus from those present that this was a smooth, balanced and very palatable wine.”
