Winchester Cathedral Christmas market gets planning approval

WINCHESTER planners have approved the cathedral’s plans for a Christmas market in The Close.
The church wants to site 88 wooden chalets, a nativity chalet, and a live nativity scene comprised of donkeys and farm animals in the Inner Close around Cloister Garth, 9 The Close lawn and the Chapter House Lawn.
Approval has also been given by planning officers for seven chalets on the Outer Close opposite the West Front of the cathedral.
The market will operate between 9.30am-8.30 pm from Thursday November 21-Sunday December 22.
Along with the ice rink it has become a hugely popular attraction with hundreds of thousands of people visiting every year.
