A WINCHESTER charity which supports children with disabilities has been given a major cash boost.

The Lanterns Music Therapy service has received a donation of £3,000 to cover the service running costs for another year from Winchester Round Table.

Matt Russell, community services chairman for Winchester Round Table, said: “Winchester Round Table are pleased to support the Lanterns Music Therapy service with a donation of £3,000. Using money donated at the annual bonfire event this £3,000 donation covered the cost of the service for one year. “The service supports children with varying disabilities and many have severe and complex communications needs. The service has a proven track record of enhancing the communication skills of the most disadvantaged children attending Lanterns.”

One parent, whose son is supported by the service, said: “Since this therapy started my son who has autism has started to really develop his skills around communicating with others and it’s been a fantastic tool to help him build relationships between children and adults. It’s made a massive difference to him.

“We have a lot of medical appointments and this is a lovely opportunity for my son to learn in a safe and familiar environment, it’s been invaluable.”
