YOUNG performers across the county are being urged to enter a new drama event.

HAMDRAM, which is run by Hampshire based theatre company White Rabbit Theatre, gives secondary school students the chance to perform on the stage of a 300-seat theatre.

Taking place at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End, the contest will see students enter a ten minute piece of drama into one of two categories depending on their Key Stage (three or four), and a panel of three judges will decide which team walks away with the trophies which will be displayed in the winning school for a year.

Emma Boniface, Artistic Director at the Winchester based company, said she thinks the competition is important for young people in developing performing and life skills.

She said: “I think it’s great for confidence building definitely, and helps them to perform in a theatre and in front of a live audience which many of them wouldn’t get the opportunity to do.

“During dress rehearsals they will be able to watch each other’s performances, and it is good to get involved in a competition atmosphere and develop a combination of skills.” To enter or for more information on the event on April 3 email
