HALF of households in the south east of England do not trust their energy supplier, according to a new survey.

It said 35 per cent of people said they do not understand their energy bill, 36 per cent of people felt that their gas and electricity bills were not accurate, while 40 per cent were worried they were paying more for energy than they consume.

Yet 44 per cent of people said they didn’t think they had enough information to choose the right tariff and 39 per cent said they didn’t have enough information to choose a supplier.

The research was conducted by The Smart Meter Central Delivery Body (SMCDB), which was created by the government to encourage people to install smart meters in their homes to help them monitor their usage.

They also found that the majority of those who do not trust their gas and electricity bills did not have a smart meter.
